Poe Points to Ponder: Chronic Disease Awareness Month

Chronic Disease Awareness Month: Small Steps Today, Healthier Tomorrows

July is Chronic Disease Awareness Month, and at Cryo & Contour, our entire menu of services is designed to help you prevent chronic disease and thrive.

The truth is, lasting health doesn’t come from dramatic overnight changes. It comes from the small choices you make every day. Taking a 10-minute walk before dinner, scheduling your preventive screenings, choosing a balanced meal, or getting to bed at the same time every night may seem insignificant in the moment, but those habits add up over time.

After more than 20 years in the medical profession, I’ve seen firsthand how prevention can change lives. Here are three important areas to consider as you take charge of your health journey:

Nutrition & Fitness

What you eat matters. Being mindful of portion sizes and making thoughtful food choices—especially ensuring you’re getting adequate protein in each meal—can have a significant impact on your long-term health.

One simple strategy is to keep a food journal using your phone or a notebook. Recording what you eat, when you eat, and how much you consume creates awareness and provides valuable information that you and your healthcare provider can review together.

When it comes to exercise, fitness doesn’t have to mean training for a marathon. Start where you are. A walk before dinner, a few sessions with free weights, or even completing 50 squats a day can improve strength, mobility, energy, and overall well-being.

Preventive Care

Regular screenings and routine blood work are essential tools for protecting your health. Delaying these appointments doesn’t make potential problems disappear—it simply postpones the opportunity to address them.

Staying current on preventive care with your doctor allows you to identify early warning signs of chronic disease and, more importantly, gives you time to take action before those conditions progress.

Lifestyle Choices Matter

As adults, some of the habits of our younger years need to evolve. Late nights, frequent fast food runs, and regular weekend indulgences can take a toll over time.

That doesn’t mean you can never enjoy life’s celebrations. It means finding balance. Prioritize seven to nine hours of sleep each night, eat a nutritious and balanced diet, limit alcohol consumption, and if you smoke, make a plan to quit. These lifestyle choices can dramatically reduce your risk of developing chronic disease.

At Cryo & Contour, I can help you navigate your health journey by reviewing your lab results, designing a medical weight-loss program tailored to your lifestyle, coaching you through challenges, and celebrating every milestone you achieve.

Chronic disease is often preventable—and far easier to address before a diagnosis occurs. In the end, healthcare providers, treatments, and wellness services can offer guidance and support, but the person with the greatest power to change your outcome is YOU!

Your future health is built by the choices you make today. Start small. Stay consistent. Your body will thank you.
